October 2, 2011 will mark 53 years of independence for our great nation, Guinea. I am pleased with our country's current efforts toward change. The Guinean community of America has also proven to be more engaged and determined to reunite and gather as one people. Together, We are able to achieve much more because there is strength in numbers, strength in communication, and strength in success! As we celebrate this weekend, let us not forget those who have come and fought before us. As Guineans our mission should be to unite in efforts to bring about positive change.
This year numerous Guinean associations have worked in collaboration to present a wonderful celebration of our country's spirit. This act has shown that Guineans are willing to work together and succeed together. I am proud that I will be there to witness such solidarity among my fellow Guineans. I'm super excited because it will be my first public appearance, as Miss Guinea New Jersey 2011, so please come out and support our community. For more information look below ;-)
Long Live Guinea!
So with that being said, I'd like to share a song from one of my absolute favorite artists, Nneka. This song carries a powerful message that resonates well with me and touches our current situation in Africa. Hope you enjoy it as I do. Song for thought...How will we choose to move forward in next 53 years to come? Positively, of course.<3
